Western Massages - What do they offer?

Swedish massage is the basic western massage and any one who has completed a recognised programme will have a certificate. Whilst it came from the east it has been closely aligned with western thinking, scientific study and medical practice. No surprise then that the training includes some anatomy, physiology and pathology. The school I attended expected all students to wear clothes like those worn at your dentist or in a beauty salon. The massage is whole body but done in sections whilst the parts not being massaged are kept covered. Certain parts of the body are not touched like the privates, what we call the builders crack and in ladies the breasts.

Other western massages that require additional specialist training are deep tissue and sports massage. Neither of these can be called relaxing but all these western massages are excellent for a whole variety of physical conditions, especially those affecting muscles and joints. The growth in sports science has seen massage techniques employed to great effect. It is no wonder male masseurs might also work at gyms or as personal trainers whilst female masseuse may in addition offer these massages in spa centres and beauty salons. Other medical related specialties may also use the techniques like physiotherapists or other physical therapists.

Experienced masseurs will pick up with their hands areas that need extra attention. With Swedish massage it is up to the client to indicate if they want the massage firmer or lighter. Masseurs will usually use oil as they massage and collect information before they start about any medical conditions that might preclude massage. It is really important clients are clear what they are booking for so they are not disappointed and are willing to discuss with the masseur any issues they have that might require specific attention.

Any questions just ask.
